Excerpt from Foundations of Christian Belief: Studies in the Philosophy of Religion
It will be seen at once that the mom of religion and the complexity of the problems it presents make its treatment by a philosophical method far from simple, for in the systematic study of the religious life we are not dealing with forces which are constant and invariable like those, for instance, dealt with in physics. We are dealing, rather, with phases of life as they manifest themselves in those variables named human belief, emotion and will. In other words, we deal with life on the plane of the personal. This makes a philosophy of religion particularly dimcult.
